LED 687 Communication, Market Research and Marketing for the Public Sector

Many public agencies are involved in marketing, but the subject is almost always taught from a private sector perspective. An overview of marketing strategy as applied in the private sector (product, distribution, promotion and pricing policies) will lead to a focus on applications in the public sector. Particular attention will be paid to cases where a "place" (community, region, province) is the "product" being marketed. Students who do not meet the required prerequisites may contact the instructor.

Prerequisites: LED 685 and 686 or consent of instructor.

------------------------------------------------------

ERS474: Social Marketing

Social marketing is the application of marketing along with other concepts and techniques to achieve specific behavioral goals for a social good.  While commercial marketing looks at ways to sell more goods and services, social marketing looks at ways to sell behavioural change (e.g. anti-smoking campaigns, promotion of household energy conservation, and so on).  This course will focus on social marketing and community-based social marketing theory and application, using case studies to demonstrate successful (and not so successful) social marketing programs.

Prerequisites: 3rd or 4th year students only

-------------------------------------

ENVS 402 (A & B) Environment & Business Project

The application of the principles learned in earlier courses will focus on a particular project. Applications may include group projects of sufficient scope to demonstrate mastery of problem-solving, integration and communication on a selected topic related to environment and business, or on selected environmental issues related to a specific business operation.

Prereq: ENVS 302; Environment and Business students only
