Biographical Statement:

Over the past decade, Dr. Haiying Lin has been examining corporate sustainability strategy in different institutional and societal settings. Since 2000, she has conducted a series of sustainability projects with Initiativekreis Ruhrgebiet (German industry association), Foundation Maison des sciences de l'homme (French foundation), OIKOS (Swiss foundation) and SustainAsia (Asian corporate sustainability advisory firm). She holds a PhD in Environmental Policy and Corporate Sustainability from George Mason University. Her research investigates the reasons why companies adopt sustainability strategies, whether these strategies improve the natural environment, and to what extent businesses derive value by implementation of these strategies. 

Dr. Lin is now a faculty member in the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development (SEED) at the University of Waterloo. She sits on the Board of Directors of the non-profit US-China Association for Environmental Education and other advisory committees. She was awarded as a college scholar by School of Urban and Regional Planning, University of the Philippines in 1999 and was awarded as a high-potential scholar by the provost office at George Mason University in 2005. She was also the winner for the Emerald Best International Symposium award in 2011.

 

Research Interests:

Dr. Lin’s current research interests include: corporate sustainability strategy, strategic alliances for complex environmental issues, alliances for innovation, cross-sector partnership, voluntary environmental programs, stakeholder involvement in environmental governance, global corporate responsibility, and corporate sustainability in the emerging economies
