 3 Thesis Research
It is hard to represent and reproduce the emergence of traffic jam through traditional modeling approach. Agent-based modeling
offers a natural way to capture the emergence phenomenon of complex dynamic spatial temporal system such as the occurrence of
traffic congestion. The research attempts to establish a generic modeling/simulation platform supporting further exploring traffic jam
by integrating agent-based modeling and GIS. The research will also provide a simulation-based framework to evaluate alternative
traffic control strategies to reduce traffic congestion and improve its management.
