- Socio-economic dynamics as drivers of cascading ecological effects across trophic levels in coupled human-natural systems
- Climate change effects on the winter ecology of temperate and boreal forests
- Nature and applications of scientific and non-scientific knowledge in natural resource management and planning
- Composition, structure and dynamics of forests and grasslands with special interest in disturbance dynamics, succession, alternate stable states, and cross-scale spatial pattern
- Behaviour and population dynamics of large herbivores in forests and grasslands
