Pre-Enrollment Fall 2012

Fall 2012 Pre-enrollment
If you plan to take courses in Fall 2012, you can pre-enroll in courses from Feb. 28 - March 6. This will allow the university to gauge course demand and those students who participate in pre-enrolment will have schedules produced for them based on their course selections.

  1. Pre-Enrolment (February 27 – March 4, 2012)
  2. Enrolment Appointments (June 4-9, 2012)
  3. Open Enrolment (begins July 23, 2012)
  4. Consult your Academic Advisor

1) Pre-Enrolment Phase: Course requests should be completed anytime from Monday, February 27th through Sunday, March 4th on Quest. Viewing the pre-enrollment instructions will help guide you through the pre-enrolment process and is strongly recommended for first time users.

During the pre-enrolment phase, you cannot customize your schedule as much as during "enrolment appointments", since class times and sections have not been finalized. You will, however, be able to indicate a degree of flexibility with respect to the location of the course (STJ, REN or UW main campus), mode of delivery (on-campus and/or distance education) and day/evening class offerings.

Course Offerings List – To view the most up-to-date information for courses planned in Fall 2012, the new Future Term Course Offerings List - UG Courses is available. This special course offerings list contains notes that will not appear on the regular Schedule of Classes and should be considered when selecting your courses and/or the priority order of your course selections (e.g., if enrolment is restricted to particular target groups or special permission is required to enroll).

You can view the Schedule of Classes on Quest as usual, but keep in mind that the Fall 2012 course information is preliminary. At this early date, it is simply a ‘carry-forward’ of the Fall 2011 information and some course times may change or not be offered.
It is very important that you list course choices in priority order. Enrolment in a class is subject to the usual checks such as pre-requisites.

You can logon to Quest and make changes as many times as you want during the “pre-enrolment” phase. Those who miss “pre-enrolment” WILL NOT have another opportunity to drop/add courses for Fall 2012 until the “enrolment appointment” phase in June.

Note When you submit your “pre-enrolment” requests on Quest, “Success” does not mean that you are successfully enrolled in the course. “Success” means that your pre-enrolment requests have been recorded. “Pre-enrolment” records your request for the course BUT it does not guarantee a place in that course, or that the course will be able to accommodate everyone who requests it.

Decisions about class size, course times, number of sections and reserve caps are made at the departmental level over the next few months based on data collected from students during “pre-enrolment” as well as on departmental resources. This should not discourage you from submitting your courses at the “pre-enrolment phase” as those who do not participate in the “pre-enrolment” phase will certainly disadvantage themselves with respect to course enrolment.

2) Enrolment Appointment Phase (View Fall 2012 Important Dates): Students will be able to access the Quest system to view the results of the enrolment process. At this time, individualized timetables from your “pre-enrolment” requests will be available. This will be your first opportunity to review and edit your Fall schedule and/or timetable (e.g., switch sections, etc.) subject to space availability.

The Schedule of Classes for Fall 2012 will be finalized in May. You will know at this stage when all classes will be held, the rooms assigned for each class, and the professors who will be teaching each section. Enrolment at this stage is again subject to pre-requisite checks, reserve caps, etc. Appointment times are assigned by year of study with fourth year student appointments before third year students, and so on.

3) Open Enrolment Phase (July 23): All students can access Quest to further customize their schedules subject to space available and usual enrolment checks.

4) The instruction link above is very helpful, and should be viewed before attempting pre-enrolment. Consult your academic advisor for course selection advice.
