I obtained my PhD from the School of Natural Resources , University of Arizona , in 1997. Working with Randy Gimblett and Edella Schlager , my dissertation focused on the development of an agent based simulation of CPR (common pool resource) experiments. Since graduating in 1997, I have been at the Department of Geography , University of Waterloo .

My current research interests are focused on the following projects:

  1. LUCITA: An agent based simulation of land use change in the Brazilian Amazon
  2. Modelling wetland vegetation response to climate change
  3. The application of Geographic Information Systems and hydrological models in resource management applications, both in Canada and China.

Teaching

My teaching responsibilities lie primarily within the Geographic Information Systems program of courses in the Faculty of Environment. I have taught the following courses within the past five years:
