- 2000 - Canadian Association of Geographers Award for Excellence in Teaching Geography
- 1995 - University of Waterloo Distinguished Teacher Award
Research Interests:
- My research focuses on weather-related traffic collisions, winter maintenance and the implications of climate change for transportation infrastructure and operations.
- I also focus on society's exposure to and management of risks.
- Through collaborative research, I have been exploring the sustainability implications of telework and other issues related to transportation and land-use planning.
Research Grants/Projects:
- Operational index of the severity of winter weather for maintenance operations on provincial highways. (Phase 2)
- Funded by: Ontario Ministry of Transportation
- Grant Period: 2005-2008
- Development of winter severity indicator models for Canadian winter roads
- Funded by: Transportation Association of Canada
- Grant Period: 2005-2006
- The road well traveled: implications of a future climate for the performance of pavement infrastructure in southern Canada
- Funded by: Grant Period: 2003-2006
- Impact of telework for Canadian households and communities
- Funded by: Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)
- Grant Period" 2002-2006
