Applying to the University of Waterloo
As a student from China applying to the joint education programs at Waterloo, you will apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC). The OUAC processes applications to all universities in the province of Ontario.
General Admission Requirements:
- Attain an average of 75% or greater in their first two years of study at their home universities in China
- Pass CET 6 (Chinese College English Test Level 6)
- Complete the six-week summer English course 'English for Academic Success' (EFAS) at Renison College located at uWaterloo
How to apply
- The application form is available starting October 3 until Feburary 21 for September entry at the University of Waterloo.
- Carefully complete the online Application for Admission.

- Select the WET – Environmental Studies/China 2+2 program on the online application and Fall (September) entry term.
- Have your uWaterloo student ID# available prior to completing the application.
- The total application fee is $85.00 in Canadian funds. Payable to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre.
You select your method of payment through the online application. Preferred method of payment is Visa or Mastercard. You can also arrange to pay by an International Money Order or Bank Draft, in Canadian funds.

To be considered for admission to the University of Waterloo, you need to submit the following documents by mid-March:
- Your official transcript from your university (original language) in a sealed/stamped envelope. Note: This transcript must include courses you are currently taking.
- A certified English Language translation of your official university transcript in a sealed/stamped envelope provided by your university.
- Your official Senior High School Graduation Diploma and, if possible, Chinese University Entrance Exam.
- Evidence of completion of Level 6 English Course (if available at time of application), or a passing TOEFL score (Internet Based TOEFL with an overall passing score of 90, including writing at a minimum of 25 and speaking at a minimum of 25).
Required Final Documents (to arrive at uWaterloo by July 31)
- Your official final university transcript in a stamped/sealed envelope
- A certified English translation of your official university transcript in a stamped/sealed envelope (this should be provided by your university).
- Evidence of completion of Level 6 English Course
Important Reminder:
An official university transcript must be mailed from your current university directly to the University of Waterloo or your university must give it directly to a uWaterloo representative.

Student visas
Once you have received your offer of admission from the University of Waterloo, you can contact the student advisor in your home university. All visa applications will be submitted together by your home university to the Canadian embassy in Beijing.
To apply for a student visa (or study permit), you will need:
- A valid passport from your government.
- Your official acceptance letter from the University of Waterloo
- Evidence of adequate funds. You must provide proof that you have enough money to cover your tuition and living expenses for you. Acceptable forms of proof include a bank statement or a letter from your bank.
