The MEB program offered by the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development is aimed at meeting the growing need for business sustainability professionals as a distinct group of knowledgeable, skilled, confident and motivated individuals with the information, tools and expertise to integrate environment with business in very practical ways.
The MEB program will offer you a part-time program of studies through distance education courses with minimal on-campus study, and with course materials distributed over the Internet. The first class of graduate students began their studies in September 2010.

The MEB program consists of two foundation courses, four core courses, two electives and an experiential project, which counts as two courses. There is an initial residency period of two weeks in August (Spring term) which includes the first course (ENBUS 601: Business and the Case for Sustainability). In addition to the course content, during these two weeks students will learn about the MEB program, meet faculty members in SEED, meet each other, and be introduced to distance education tools. The residency period in 2012 will be August 20th - August 31st. Out-of-town students will be able to stay at the St. Paul’s University College Residence. Please note that students must enroll in the spring term even though the first course does not take place until the initial residency in August.
Graduates will be prepared for senior level positions, primarily as team-leaders or in strategic positions in corporations, and in medium- and small-businesses seeking to change to more sustainable practices. Other intended job destinations include consulting firms and non-governmental organizations that assist businesses in sustainability issues, government departments (municipal, provincial and federal), public organisations (hospitals, school boards, etc.), and international agencies.
To be considered for admission to the MEB, you must:
Have completed a recognized four-year Bachelor’s degree* with a minimum of 75% overall standing in the last two years, in a Canadian university (or its equivalent).
Have at least three years of full-time work experience in a private, public or non-public
sector setting, either through paid employment or documented
volunteer efforts, or through co-operative work terms as an undergraduate student.
Provide two letters of reference; preferably one academic and one professional.
Provide a statement of interest or purpose. A supplementary form with a list of questions will be available to you as part of the application process.
Provide a current curriculum vita (résumé).
*The School may consider applications from mature students who do not meet the regular academic admission requirements of a four-year Honours Bachelor's degree or equivalent. To be considered, an application who does not meet the regular academic requirements must have at least eight years of managemetn experience and a minimum GMAT score of 550, or an equivalent score on the GRE (referencing ETS's GRE Comparison Table for Business School).
a. Tuition Fee
The MEB is a professional program. Each of the ten courses (ENBUS 690 is a double course) in the MEB online programme is currently priced at $2,987(CDN)** + incidentals for each academic year. Fee and information and due dates are available by consulting Finance-Student Accounts.

b. Other Costs
In addition to the tuition fee for the MEB, students will be responsible for purchasing textbooks. Students are also required to attend a two-week course at uWaterloo campus in August (ENBUS 601), and will be expected to cover their own room and board costs. uWaterloo will endeavor to make affordable residence spaces available for the period. Students are expected to provide for their own computer equipment and internet service, in order to participate in online Distance Education courses in the MEB. Students are also expected to cover the cost of their participation in the two professional conferences (milestones) and final residency period (capstone).
c. Bursary Option
Students may apply for an MEB Award if their individual income is less than $50,000/year or in the case of married students, their household icnome is less than $100,000/year.
February 1st is the normal deadline for applying to the Master of Environment and Business. We are no longer accepting applications for Spring 2011. There are a number of steps in the application process. NOTE: Students will register and pay fees for the spring term, even though the first course is not held until August.
